Sunday Ride:
Down to Deptford

Sunday 13 April 2025

Ride leader: Ross

Deptford started as a ‘deep ford’ across the Ravensbourne river, which crossed an ancient Celtic trackway, later paved by the Romans and developed into the Medieval Watling Street. A long history indeed.

On this ride we will make our way via Rotherhithe to Deptford and Greenwich, exploring some of the lesser known historical highlights, including a castle, a hospital, and a royal bath. We’ll hear about the death of a playwright and a Russian vandal, and we’ll admire the greatest view in London.

A ride of about 15 miles (that's 24km for some of us) starting and ending close to London Bridge. There will be a hill.
